Bruni & Campisi, Inc. is proud to serve Westchester and nearby communities in New York and Connecticut with trusted heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical services. When summer heat and humidity hit Westchester County, your central air conditioning system becomes one of the most important parts of your home. But if your AC starts blowing warm air, making strange noises, or can’t keep up with the temperature outside, you need fast, professional repair to restore comfort.

Central air systems often show warning signs before they fail completely. Addressing problems early can help prevent costly breakdowns and protect major components like the compressor. Bruni & Campisi has been providing dependable air conditioning repair and service since 1979, helping local homeowners stay cool through humid summers and heat waves.

If you need central air repair in Westchester, NY, our technicians are ready to respond with expert troubleshooting and long-lasting solutions.

What Homeowners Need to Know About Central Air Conditioning Problems

Central air conditioning systems are designed to provide consistent cooling throughout your home. They rely on a combination of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant components to remove heat and humidity from indoor air.

When one part of the system fails or becomes restricted, performance can drop quickly. In many cases, homeowners don’t notice the problem until the house feels uncomfortable—or until the system stops cooling entirely.

Central AC issues are especially common during peak summer months, when systems run for long periods under high demand. In Westchester and surrounding areas, hot temperatures combined with high humidity can push aging equipment to its limits.

The good news is that many central air problems can be repaired quickly when diagnosed by experienced professionals.

Common Problems People Face With Central Air Conditioning Systems

At Bruni & Campisi, we see a wide range of AC issues, from simple airflow problems to major component failures. Knowing what causes these problems can help homeowners understand when to call for service.

Some of the most common central AC problems include:

Refrigerant Leaks

Refrigerant is essential for cooling. If your system is low on refrigerant, it may blow warm air, struggle to cool your home, or freeze up. Leaks should be repaired by a professional technician.

Frozen Evaporator Coils

If airflow is restricted due to a dirty filter or clogged coil, the evaporator coil can freeze. This can cause poor cooling performance and may eventually lead to system shutdown.

Clogged Condensate Drain Line

Central AC systems remove humidity from your home. That moisture drains through a condensate line, which can become clogged with debris or algae. A clogged drain line may cause water leaks or trigger a safety shutoff.

Capacitor or Electrical Failure

Capacitors help your AC start and run properly. When they fail, the system may not turn on or may struggle to stay running. Electrical issues should always be handled by trained technicians for safety.

Dirty Condenser Coils

The outdoor unit must release heat efficiently. Dirt and debris buildup can reduce performance, increase energy use, and cause overheating.

Thermostat Problems

Sometimes the AC is working fine, but the thermostat isn’t reading temperature correctly or isn’t communicating with the system properly.

Blower Motor Issues

The blower motor moves cool air through your ductwork. If it fails or weakens, airflow may drop and rooms may feel warm even when the system is running.

These issues can worsen quickly in hot weather, which is why timely repair matters.

Why Quick Central Air Repair Matters During Westchester Summers

Summer in Westchester County can bring intense humidity and prolonged heat waves. When your AC system isn’t functioning properly, indoor temperatures can rise quickly—especially in homes with upstairs bedrooms, sun-exposed living areas, or limited ventilation.

Delaying AC repair can lead to:

  • Increased energy costs from inefficient operation
  • Higher risk of compressor damage
  • Frozen coils and refrigerant strain
  • Poor indoor air quality and humidity buildup
  • Uncomfortable and unsafe indoor conditions

In some cases, minor issues like dirty coils or failing capacitors can turn into major repairs if ignored.

Prompt repair protects your comfort and helps your equipment last longer.

Our Central Air Conditioning Repair Process

At Bruni & Campisi, we believe homeowners deserve accurate diagnostics and repairs that actually solve the problem—not quick fixes that lead to repeat service calls.

Our central air repair process typically includes:

1. Complete System Inspection

We inspect both the indoor and outdoor components, including the thermostat, air handler, condenser, coils, and electrical connections.

2. Airflow and Filter Evaluation

Airflow issues are a leading cause of poor AC performance. We check filters, duct airflow, blower components, and coil condition.

3. Refrigerant Testing

If refrigerant issues are suspected, we check system pressure and performance levels. If a leak is present, we locate the source and recommend the proper repair.

4. Electrical Diagnostics

We test capacitors, contactors, motors, and wiring connections to identify electrical failures or safety concerns.

5. Clear Repair Recommendations

Once the issue is identified, we explain the repair options clearly so you can make an informed decision.

6. Final Performance Testing

After repairs are completed, we test the system again to ensure proper cooling output, stable operation, and reliable performance.

Our goal is to restore your comfort quickly while helping your system run efficiently for the rest of the season.

Call Bruni & Campisi in Westchester today for reliable central air repair and AC service.

Central Air Maintenance: How to Avoid Summer Breakdowns

One of the best ways to prevent AC breakdowns is regular maintenance. Many central air problems begin with simple issues—dirty filters, clogged coils, or small electrical wear—that can be addressed before they cause major failures.

A professional central AC tune-up can help improve efficiency, lower cooling costs, and reduce the risk of mid-summer emergencies.

A typical AC maintenance visit includes:

  • Replacing or cleaning air filters
  • Inspecting and cleaning condenser coils
  • Checking refrigerant levels and performance
  • Inspecting electrical connections and safety controls
  • Testing thermostat function
  • Inspecting condensate drainage
  • Checking blower motor performance
  • Confirming system cycling and airflow output

Maintenance is especially important for homeowners in Westchester because humidity and seasonal demand can place extra strain on cooling equipment.

If you want your system to run smoothly during the hottest part of summer, scheduling a tune-up early in the season is a smart move.

Repair vs. Replacement: When Should You Upgrade Your Central Air System?

Sometimes a repair is all you need. But if your AC system is older or requires frequent service, replacement may be the better long-term investment.

You may want to consider AC replacement if:

  • Your system is 12–15+ years old
  • Repairs are becoming more frequent
  • Cooling performance is inconsistent
  • Your energy bills keep rising
  • The system uses outdated refrigerant
  • The unit struggles during high heat and humidity
  • The cost of repair is significant compared to replacement value

Bruni & Campisi can evaluate your system and provide honest recommendations based on the condition of your equipment and your comfort needs.

5 Star, Triple AAA service. I had a water leak hidden in my upstair bathroom and it leaked through the ceiling in my kitchen pantry.I called them on Weds 9/24/25 at 9:30 a.m. for an appointment and the repairmen was at my home 2 hours later. My repairman was JoJo, he showed up early and friendly, courteous,. It was A LOT OF WORK to find out where the source of the leak was. It was A LOT of work getting to the damaged pantry with 18 inch deep builtt in cabinet in a 30 inch deep closet. There was barely room for the ladder. JoJo persevered through each stage in the process and communicated back to me in a way that was easy to understand. Johan is quite a professional. JoJo is quite the Ambassador of the Bruni Campisi Company. Bruni Campisi is a GOOD company, because of GREAT people like JoJo. Thank you

Glenn thoroughly traced the leak throughout the house, from the attic to the basement, and determined that it was not caused by the bathroom plumbing. The leak may have originated from the plumbing vent due to melting snow on the roof. He cleaned all the affected areas and was very courteous. We are pleased with his service. Tom
